Iconic hospitality venue in The Rocks, NSW

BDAI is delighted to announce that it has been engaged in an exciting new project for an iconic hospitality venue in The Rocks, NSW.

VENUE’S BACKGROUND

As a listed item of the 19th century, BDAI is presenting an adaptive concept design that embraces the history of the premises located in The Rocks, NSW, and creates unique and meaningful interiors that cater to the expectation of users. Understanding the Conversation Management Plan (CMP), the concept design revolves around three key focal elements of the building: entrance, internal courtyard and part of the facade.

FOCAL ELEMENTS

The entrance incorporates arches to create the illusion of a portal that is increasing its size to take users into a large open area full of trees, colours and shapes. A glass floor fixed to a metallic structure, levels the surface and preserves the conditions of the existing floor. Lighting elements have been added to the arches and the glass floor to create a unique effect that can elevate nocturnal experiences and add an extra layer of functionality.

The surrounding context of the building has been considered leading to a courtyard that incorporates greenery that hangs from a translucent roof and features structural elements in the form of trees creating a unique atmosphere that links the rustic exterior to the interiors of the premises. The allocation of the trees ensures a clear circulation from the entry to other parts of the building. The glass floor extends to the courtyard to keep revealing the existing condition of the floor without compromising the safety of the space. Lighting elements have been added to the courtyard design to create a fun and unique area for night events, highlighting key aspects of the existing building.

For the facade, a free-standing glass box with triangular faces accentuates the new proposal while respecting the existing building. The box’s transparency reveals the building’s facade during the day and at night; lighting elements present a fun and dynamic structure, ensuring the cohesion of the design.

BDAI’s unique approach ensures a delightful design that opens the opportunity to co-design with aboriginal artists, heritage specialists and key members of the communities to ensure a delightful design and commercially successful outcome.

Stay tuned for upcoming updates on this exciting new project.
